The ADG-FAD Board, chaired by Sisón Pujol, awards the 2021 Laus of Honour to the designer Toni Miserachs
The Association of Art Directors and Graphic Designers (ADG-FAD) recognizes her trajectory and contribution to the definition of the profession, to teaching and building associations, and to female leadership in a field in which women were nearly invisible.
In this 51st edition of the ADG Laus Awards, all the members of the Association’s Board of Directors (chaired by our founder and CEO, Sisón Pujol) proposed and unanimously decided to award the Catalan designer with the Laus de Honour for “her contribution to the definition of the profession and to teaching, for her tireless work with professional associations, and for promoting female leadership in a field in which women had remained invisible and where, even today, they are far from achieving the visibility that they deserve”.
Born in Barcelona in 1942, Toni Miserachs is considered one of the pioneers of graphic design in Catalonia and belongs to a generation of designers who participated in the “Spanish Political Transition” through graphic design. Furthermore, she was one of the first women to position herself as a successful professional in an essentially male context.

During her long career, Miserachs has worked on a multitude of editorial projects, corporate identities and posters for clients such as Lumen, Ketres, Edhasa, Ediciones 62, MACBA or Museu Picasso, among many others. Her collaboration with Enciclopèdia Catalana stands out, with encyclopedic works such as “Biosphere”, “Natural History of the Catalan Countries” or the “Atlas of History of Catalonia”.
She has also been linked to the history of the EINA school, since its inception in 1967. She has worked as a teacher, head of the Graphic Design department, head of studies, member of the Governing Board and, finally, as Director between 1996 and 1998.

She has also been one of the founders of the FAD Visual Communication Association (1971) and the Association of Professional Designers (ADP), of which she was president during the period from 1994-1997. Most recently, she was a member of the FAD Board of Directors between 2009 and 2012.
The Laus de Honour award is ADG-FAD’s recognition of a trajectory of significant contributions to the profession and culture of graphic design. In past editions, relevant professionals such as America Sanchez (2020), Ana Zelich (2019), Oscar Mariné (2018), Enric Aguilera (2017), Yves Zimmermann (2016) or Raquel Pelta (2015) have been distinguished with this award, among others.
