“We Embrace Education Broadly”: Our Proposal for the El Llindar Foundation as part of the Blanquerna Social Action Lab

Once again, we’re taking part in the Blanquerna Social Action Lab, and we’d like to take this opportunity to revisit the project we tackled in the previous edition for the El Llindar Foundation, a School of New Opportunities.

At NOMON DESIGN, we’re a socially conscious branding agency, and this commitment is shared by all our team members. That’s why, since 2017, we’ve been collaborating with Blanquerna’s University Diploma in Communication and Marketing for Social Action (FCRI), contributing our expertise to projects involving various social entities.

In June 2020, right in the midst of the pandemic, we participated once more by crafting a proposal for the El Llindar Foundation. It’s a School of New Opportunities that caters to 400 adolescents and young people, founded back in 2004 in Cornellà de Llobregat.

The foundation’s mission is to ignite a passion for learning in young individuals who’ve left formal education, providing training in fields such as cooking, automotive, and personal image.

A Fresh Educational Endeavour: El Llindar Lab

The foundation had plans to launch El Llindar Lab, a novel training project aimed at educators, with a focus on supporting adolescents and young people to prevent school dropout and enhance their employability.

Our collaboration centered on conceptualizing and defining the communication strategy for this new project, as well as designing elements that would serve as the cornerstone for developing the rest of the corporate and communication materials for the El Llindar Foundation’s new training initiative for educators.

To conceptualize our proposal, we delved into the various meanings of the word “lindar/llindar,” which lends its name to the foundation. Out of all the definitions, we settled on the following:

“Extreme value of a magnitude that, when surpassed, changes the characteristics of the established system.”

A concept that stretches the mental and physical boundaries of the current educational system

This definition led us to articulate that the core objective of El Llindar Lab, through educator training, is to expand the boundaries (both mental and physical) of the existing educational system and transform it to curb school dropout rates.

Because when educators broaden their knowledge…
boundaries expand,
classrooms expand,
knowledge expands,
minds expand,
education expands.

From this communication discourse, we crafted the project’s tagline: “Vivim l’educació àmpliament” (We Embrace Education Broadly), which we prominently featured across all their communication materials, including brochures, leaflets, stationery, and outdoor advertising (bus shelters and banners).

We devised an artistic direction rooted in elements and spaces associated with education (library, classroom, desks) and those linked to the foundation’s training areas (cooking, automotive, etc.). These elements were creatively “distorted” to convey the idea of expanding boundaries.

To add a vibrant touch, we adopted a corporate colour palette of vivid blue and green, appealing particularly to young people, who are the primary beneficiaries of this project.

The Outcome

The result is our graphic proposal, which not only aligns seamlessly with the project’s objectives and requirements but also resonated positively with everyone at the foundation, including the General Management and the Training Department.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily postponed the project’s implementation due to other urgent priorities stemming from the virus, it remains a top priority, and we’re eager to see it come to fruition as soon as possible.
