NOMON at the 15th edition of the Blanc! festival

For those of us immersed in branding and design, industry festivals and events are essential for soaking up inspiration, learning, and exchanging ideas with fellow professionals in a creative and laid-back setting.

Currently, one of the standout festivals in our field is Blanc!, which marked its 15th edition this year. The NOMON DESIGN team was on hand to soak in the experience.

The Blanc! festival and its embrace of design and creativity

Blanc!’s inaugural edition took place in 2009 in a small auditorium in Vilanova i la Geltrú. Since then, the festival has evolved and expanded, bringing its spirit to cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Bilbao.

Each year, Blanc! brings together professionals, students, and design enthusiasts from diverse communities and countries in a singular space. The event hosts over 20 national and international speakers who are trailblazers in the realms of design, creativity, and innovation. These professionals share their insights, experiences, and expertise, transforming Blanc! into a wellspring of inspiration and learning.

In recent editions, Blanc! has returned to its roots, once again taking place in Vilanova i la Geltrú, thus recapturing its essence.

Three days of Blanc!, three key themes

The 15th edition of the Blanc! festival unfolded from October 19th to 21st, 2023, at La Daurada, a unique venue nestled along the Mediterranean coast. Beyond treating us to stunning sunsets, the location immersed us in three days packed with inspiration and insights in the creative realm.

In this edition, the festival centred around three main themes: branding, innovation, and art direction.

Day one of the festival spotlighted branding, featuring insights from agencies like Comuniza with their Brandemia project, and Aranda, prompting reflections on the reality and ethics of our industry across diverse domains.

Professionals such as DixonBaxi, Martin Lorenz, Morillas, and Carolina Kairos also joined in, sharing their expertise on crafting creative strategies that challenge norms and pave the way for a brighter future for brands.

→ Day two zoomed in on innovation in design, urging us to challenge the norm and embrace originality in our creative endeavours. With contributors like Locomotive©, Relajaelcoco, and Fuego Camina Conmigo, among others, encouraging us to unlearn and make space for the new.

→ Day three explored the realm of art direction, with professionals like The Rodina, T.O.T, and Tessa showcasing cases where they dared to defy established norms.

Projects such as “Seres de luz” and “Queremos contar, queremos escuchar” from the Buenaventura studio, in collaboration with our creative director, Esther Agustench, and part of the ADG-FAD Board, tugged at our emotions.

These initiatives have given a voice to the most vulnerable—migrant children and adolescents—and stand as compelling examples of how design wields the power to raise awareness and drive social transformation.

Three days packed with laughter and good times at NOMON

For the NOMON DESIGN team, Blanc! isn’t just another festival or industry event; it’s a fantastic opportunity to share moments beyond the ones that happen in the day-to-day agency life.

That’s why, this year, to make the most of the experience, we headed to Vilanova i la Geltrú to literally experience the festival together.

We shared design and creativity, but, most importantly, we shared and enjoyed team breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (feel free to ask us for recommendations…). Coffees, beers, the occasional drink, a bit of dancing, and, of course, plenty of laughter. Because at NOMON DESIGN, laughter (and memes 😉 ) are always in abundance.

Moreover, Blanc! is an excellent way to discover new sources of inspiration, explore emerging trends, and identify and connect with professionals and students who have a lot to contribute to our industry.

Whether you’re a design professional, a passionate student, or just someone seeking an extra dose of fresh ideas, we highly recommend attending the next edition. You’ll get to experience genuinely interesting conferences, live music, delicious cuisine, and a festival closing party that puts the cherry on top of this getaway for designers and creatives.

See you there next year! Or at least, that’s what we hope, because experience has shown us that a lot can happen in a year… 😉
