Challenge
We co-created the first edition of the Bangkok Spanish Design Week 2024 (BSDW24), an event aimed at celebrating the excellence of Spanish design and fostering cultural exchange between Spain and Asia.
This first edition, held from 21 to 24 November 2024 in the emblematic Chinatown district of Bangkok, was conceptualised, created, and organised in collaboration with MESA312 Cultural Lab Bangkok and with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Thailand.
At NOMON DESIGN, we took on the challenge of co-creating the event, as well as its visual identity, narrative and communication.
Process
When Myriam Rueda – founder of MESA312 and former designer at NOMON DESIGN – proposed the idea of co-creating this event, we didn’t hesitate. Her 15+ years of experience in Thailand allowed us to understand a clear reality: Spanish culture and design remain largely unknown in this Asian country.
That’s why we saw this as a unique opportunity to position Spanish design, generate lasting cultural connections, and open new paths towards international recognition.
Together with MESA312 Cultural Lab Bangkok, we conceptualised the Bangkok Spanish Design Week 2024 as a platform to showcase Spanish design. From NOMON DESIGN, we developed its graphic identity, defined its communication tone, structured its content and curated a coherent experience across all touchpoints: exhibitions, talks, spaces, signage, and digital platforms.
Under the concept Iconic & Talent, which anchors the entire project, we showcased the excellence of Spanish design across various disciplines — from architecture and interior design to fashion, graphic and product design — through exhibition spaces, talks, and workshops.
With this concept, we celebrated the pioneers of Spanish design, highlighting brilliant professionals behind everyday products and historical milestones. Examples include Elena García Armada, a CSIC researcher who developed the first paediatric bionic exoskeleton; Eric Bernat, creator of the Chupa Chups; and Arturo Simón, who introduced the light switch into every home.
At the same time, we paid tribute to established designers who have made significant contributions in their fields, while giving space to current talents who are bringing fresh creativity and innovation to the present design landscape.
Result
The first edition of BSDW24 positioned itself as an event that has successfully created connections between Asia and Spain through design.
Our involvement reflects our commitment to promoting the creativity and value of Spanish design within a global context.
Thanks to an inclusive communication strategy, this initiative managed to engage a wide range of audiences — including students, design professionals, businesses, institutions, and the general public.
The selected venues in Song Wat, in Chinatown, were transformed into stages for BSDW24 where not only the quality and authenticity of Spanish design were celebrated, but also future collaborations and new opportunities for growth and connection were inspired for the Spanish creative community in Asia.
At NOMON DESIGN, we reaffirm our commitment to branding and graphic design as drivers of cultural impact, and to communication as a bridge between ideas, people, and places.
Moreover, working alongside Myriam Rueda over the past months has been much more than a professional experience — it has been a creative reunion filled with enthusiasm and teamwork.
